Child Health looks at childhood obesity, as an urgent health issue, not a problem of how any particular child looks. There's too much emphasis on outer looks where children get the idea they have to resemble airbrushed movie stars or models in magazines. Childhood obesity is of epidemic proportions in the United States growing by the minute. Attention focuses on such areas as fast food, the convenience of prepackaged foods, and a growing technologically-based society obsessed with computers, I-pods, and video games resulting in a population of obese, inactive children. Children's health was once a part of adult medicine. It emerged in the 19th and early 20th century as a medical specialty because of the gradual awareness that the health problems of children are different from those of grown-ups.
